Volunteers and Co-ops Help the Village

The Village cannot operate without the assistance of dedicated volunteers and co-op students.  In order to deliver our day to day programs we need your help!

The Safety Village is eager to partner with willing volunteers for both the police and fire programs.  Each morning we run two classes on each side.  The first session is delivered between 9:00 - 10:30 am followed by the second session which is delivered between 10:15 and 11:45 am.  The third session of the day is delivered in the afternoon between 1:00 and 2:30 pm.  The children receive a twenty-five minute safety lesson by a police or fire educator.  The class is then divided into two groups, each of which participates in the practical component of the lesson plan.  The volunteers assist in supervising these practical components.

Duties of a volunteer include operating the hazard house, helping students in Sparky’s apartment or supervising students operating the battery operated jeeps or bicycles. This requires supervision (and patience!)

Without at least two helpers (volunteers and/or co-ops) to facilitate the practical sessions, the programs cannot be run.

The time commitment for a volunteer is approximately two and a half hours if mornings are preferred (9:15 – 11:45) and one and a half hours if afternoons are preferred (1:00 – 2:30).

In addition to seeking volunteers to assist with our regular programs, the Safety Village also relies on community partners who are willing to assist us with our special events.  Special Event duties are often a shorter commitment and may include decorating the Village for our Annual Christmas Event, assisting with face painting, tattoos and serving refreshments for our other special events.
