After a child rejected a stranger in a car offering candy, the mother wrote to Constable Barb Young:
“….I quizzed my son, “how did you know what to do?” “They taught us that”, he replied. ‘They’, I
thought. “Who taught you?” I asked. “At the Safety Village, in the jail!” he replied. “They said, ‘never
take candy from a stranger’.”
I smiled to myself. Okay I don’t get the pat on the back this time. I humbly and respectfully step
back and shine the spotlight on the Children’s Safety Village and the personnel who teach safety to
our children. I am sure you sometimes wonder if they are really listening and learning. I definitely
know of one child that was! Keep doing what you’re doing! Its working and you have my deepest
heartfelt thanks.

safety tips and rules in a fun, hands-on way. We had the pleasure to watch an informative movie.
I must say that the children’s favorite was going through ‘Sparky’s Apartment’.
Awesome job. Thank you!”

give our personal information over the ‘Information Highway’. It is important to stay safe while
surfing the web and if anything makes us uncomfortable we need to talk to our parents right away.
Thank you for your time. We had fun, especially playing the game.

We really liked the movie. It was very funny and we liked the music. We had lots of fun riding the
bikes and learning about bike safety, hand signals and road rules. Thank you for all the things you
gave us, like the Timbits, the certificates, the pencils, the booklets and the Halloween safety package.
We had a great time and we learned a lot about bike safety.
