Police Week Open House, Saturday, May 08, 2010 from 10 am to 3 pm
The Children’s Safety Village continues to be one of the most popular attractions for families
attending the annual Police Week Open House at Headquarters. Each year the Open House is held
during Police Week in May.
Several thousand people attend the Open House, which has grown every year since the first
one in 1999.
Police Week Open House offers a broad range of educational activities and attractions for
every member of the family. Thanks to the efforts of the organizing committee, police members,
volunteers, and the ongoing participation of many community partners from private sector
companies and government agencies, Police Week Open House continues to gain popularity.
Many community partners volunteer their time and efforts at the Village for the Open House -
running such activities as Sparky’s Apartment, face-painting and tattoos. Presentations delivering
safety messages are given by Block Parent, Kidz-Printz and Kids-on-the-block puppet shows.
All proceeds from the Optimist Barbeque at the Open House are donated back to support the fine work done at the Safety Village.

2010 Children's Hero Awards Video
The Annual Children’s Hero Awards are held the last Saturday of May each year. This event provides the Safety Village an opportunity to recognize children in our community who have performed a heroic act or who have performed at a level that is beyond expectation, while contributing to a safer community. Students who assisted their classmates, parents or friends or who demonstrated good citizenship are considered for awards. Students can be nominated by teachers, parents, members of the community, police, fire and emergency medical services personnel.
Children who are selected to receive an award attend the Safety Village for the Awards Ceremony where they receive the award from a community sponsor and a plaque from police and fire officials. Attendees are treated to a light lunch following the celebration.
Nominations forms can be found below and completed and faxed or emailed to the Children’s Safety Village.

Christmas in the Village, Wednesday, December 01 and Thursday, December 02, 2010 both nights from 6-9 pm
Christmas in the Village is quickly becoming a “must-do” family event during the Christmas season.
The event usually held in the evenings early in December.
Participants enjoy strolling the Village streets under the glow of Christmas lights – accompanied by
a number of fun and whimsical characters and the sounds of Christmas music performed by school
choirs and The Cascade Quartet. Participants can warm up inside with hot chocolate and cookies generously provided by Tim Hortons and Zehrs.
The Village Education Center is normally packed full of families enjoying our indoor activities.
People laugh with delight while being entertained by the Grinch (even when he goes head to head
with Santa)! Chidren will have an opportunity to share their wishes with Santa. The children enjoy activities in the “Kid Zone” which include Christmas videos, coloring and activity sheets, face painting and tattoos…all with a Christmas flare!
It serves as a great way to bring the Community together and provides an opportunity for students
to bring their parents and show them a little piece of the Village that they experience each year
during their elementary school education.

Christmas Decorations

Each year the Children’s Safety Village hosts an “Appreciation Breakfast” for our Sponsors and
Donors. This event helps express our gratitude and appreciation for the community partners,
sponsors and donors who support the Village by means of resources, donations, and sponsorships.
The event involves approximately 70 participants.
